The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has been seriously unearthed by its claim to withdraw from the partial election of Ayawaso Wuogon, which they have unfortunately lost, despite the low turnout, reports MyNewsGh. .com.
It was revealed that party agents present in various polling stations in the constituency and with the authority of their party had signed the pink sheets to attest to the results, even though their party had claimed to be took of.
NDC President Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo told reporters on Thursday that the party, in consultation with Delali K. Brempong, the candidate who led the NDC to lose in 2016 and again in 2019, decided to withdraw the race as a result of a shootout at Brempong's residence and the alleged badbadination of party members.
Mr. Ofosu-Ampofo claimed that eight of their members had been injured and that two of them were in critical condition. Mr. Ofosu-Ampofo claimed that the presence of some members of the security unit, involved in the incident in other polling stations, intimidated their agents.
Jean Mensah, the director of the electoral commission, however, said that the NDC had not withdrawn from the polls.
S addressing reporters, Ms. Jean Mensa revealed that although opposition NDC national leaders held a press conference in response to the incident at the Presbyterian School of Bawaleshie polling station in the constituency of Ayawaso West Wuogon, the name of their candidate was not removed from the polls, the Commission not being officially informed.
"… We are not aware that the candidate withdrew from the poll. We have not been officially informed that the NDC candidate has withdrawn from the polls. We learned that the party agent had been removed from the polling station, "she said.
Deputy Commissioner Samuel Tetteh said candidates wishing to retire had to do so before the ballots were printed. He stated, however, that officers could be removed and replaced at any time during the electoral process.
The signed pink leaves seem to support the EC, that the NDC withdrew through a press conference and that if their candidate had won, he was preparing to take office.
