STOP KENNEDY AGYAPONG NOW

We would like to draw the attention of the Ghana Police Service to an inflammatory statement by Mr. Kennedy Agyapong on a live television program which has since been broadcast widely on social media.

In said video, Mr. Agyapong sought to order arsonists in his command to burn down the residential properties of His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, Colonel Rtd Larry Gbevlo-Lartey, Capt (Rtd) Joshua Hamidu Akamba and his lawyer Baba Jamal. Beyond his threats, he also launched offensive and unprintable insults against the personalities of the aforementioned people.

We urge the police to urgently arrest Mr. Agyapong for his potentially fatal and unfortunate remarks which tend to disturb the peace and cohesion of the country.

While Kennedy Agyapong is known to survive on slurs and anti-democratic behavior in public space, a direct threat to harm prominent politicians in this country is a mile too far, especially with its past. recent – where he threatened, in a live television broadcast, the life of renowned journalist, Ahmed Suale, for whom the latter was later murdered in cold blood.

The NDC is a democratic party and believes in the power of the state to contain figures like Kennedy Agyapong. We have noted with concern, however, the tendency of some officials and state institutions to bow to partisan political patronage against their direct mandate under the 1992 Constitution. We want the police service to fulfill its mandate of impartially on this issue and get Mr. Agyapong to reserve in order to gain the trust of the masses.

The consequences of the state’s failure to maintain law and order while protecting citizens are obvious to all. We make this call knowing full well that there are many serving individuals committed to the security of our beloved country. We don’t need to remind the police how quickly a Power FM journalist was recently arrested and detained for days and currently prosecuted for allegedly insulting and threatening President Nana Akufo-Addo.

Please accept our congratulations on the season and render to this country the service you have sworn to provide with fairness and integrity to all kinds of people.

Long live Ghana

Hon. Kwesi Dawood

Regional communications officer
