The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has called on its supporters to remain calm following the arrest of its president, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, on Tuesday.

In a statement, Opposition Party Secretary General Johnson Asiedu Nketia badured supporters that "all members of the party's legal team are in contact with the police and are monitoring near the situation ".

Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, as stated in the statement, went to the police as a result of a warrant issued by the law enforcement authority .

This follows Ampofo's refusal to honor an invitation to report to the Director General of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah, to help him investigate the recent wave of kidnappings and of arson in the country.

According to correspondence that invited him, a suspect accused him of being behind the kidnappings in the country, which prompted the police to invite him to participate in their investigations.

But the president declined the invitation. His lawyers called the invitation "political harbadment" and "intimidation".
