Johnson Asiedu Nketia, Secretary General, NDC
The National Democratic Congress (NEC) has officially launched an electronic payment platform to facilitate fundraising.
The new electronic platform, including an application interface called "NDC GHANA", a website (www.ghanandc.com) and a short code, * 216 # or * 714 * 24 #, would collect special contributions and collect dues from its members.
NDC Secretary-General Johnson Asiedu Nketia said at its launch in Accra on Monday that the initiative was an effective system for collecting membership fees from party members.
He also noted that the focus was on Party dues. However, they would later computerize donations and other contributions to Party coffers.
He noted that if all funds were computerized, this would help to ensure transparency and empower the Party leadership.
Mr. Nketia said that it was a trip to make the party owned by all collectively, adding that "if you do not wish to pay your contributions, you are jeopardizing your right to participate in the decisional process".
He explained that if party members allowed a few people to do things well to be responsible for funding the party, they would like their voice to be heard louder.
The Secretary General also pointed out that the cost of applying for a political position in Ghana was very high and increasing; therefore, the need to think and find innovative solutions to reduce or reduce costs.
Mr Nketia said that in the absence of such initiatives in the political system, candidates had to bear the full costs of the primaries, as the parties could not support them. the costs.
Mr. Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, National President of the NDC, said the idea was to address monetization issues and decentralize party funding across the country.
"I believe that one of the demands of our constituencies and our regions is to ensure that we have equitable means of distributing resources," he added.
Mr. Ofosu-Ampofo encouraged party members to pay their quota to ensure that the party enforced its measures for victory in the next general election.
Mr. Kwame Peprah, Chairman of the NDC Finance Committee, said that about 60% of the conflicts within the party could be related to financial decisions.
He stated that in some of their previous reviews, the main issues were lack of transparency in how funds were received and even how they were disbursed.
Mr. Peprah noted that this initiative would help to solve these problems, because the system would show not only what was received, but who paid what; and also be able to know the different branches and constituencies to which the person belongs.
