The scene of the accident
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has expressed its shock and deplored the increasing number of road accidents that continue to claim victims in Ghana.
In a statement issued by Sammy Gyamfi, National Communications Officer, the NDC called on the government and the National Road Safety Commission to "take urgent measures to combat this disturbing phenomenon".
Below is a copy of the statement
THE NATIONAL DEMOCRATIC CONGRESS (NDC) CONDUCTS WITH THE GHANAIANS IN ONE DAY OF TRAGIC ROAD ACCIDENTS.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) joins the Ghanaians in mourning the precious souls of many of our citizens who were reported dead in two separate road accidents that occurred today, March 22, 2019.
According to unconfirmed media reports, about 80 people were reported dead and several others wounded in the two terrible accidents at Ekumfi Dunkwa in the central region and on the Techiman-Kintampo road in the Bono area. The heartbreaking details that emerged from both scenes left us shocked by the magnitude of the two tragedies.
The NDC joins the rest of the Ghanaians in expressing our sincere sympathies and sincere condolences to the families of the disappeared. We pray that God will grant a peaceful rest to their souls and strengthen their loved ones in this time of indescribable sorrow. We also wish all those who have suffered various degrees of injury a speedy recovery.
While we mourn the dead and sympathize with the wounded, it is important to deplore the increasing number of road accidents that continue to make legitimate and irreplaceable victims in the country. We call on the Government and the National Road Safety Commission to take urgent measures to address this disturbing phenomenon.
