Professor Joshua Alabi, president of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), called for a change of direction and a new lease of life for the NDC in its march forward to win the 2020 elections.
He said that since the 2012 elections, the party had dropped in terms of votes and that the situation could worsen in 2020 if no change in direction was made.
He even warned that "If we do not take care to change this trend, when the current generation of leaders withdraws, we may no longer have CND".
Professor Alabi is entrusted Tuesday to the Daily Graphic during an interview with his home in Accra.
Seven aspirants
Professor Alabi, one of the seven other candidates wishing to become NDC's flag bearer for the 2020 general election, invited NDC delegates to reflect and vote wisely in the party's collective interest. .
The other candidates are former President John Dramani Mahama, Ekwow Spio-Garbrah and Alban S. Bagbin, Sylvester Mensah, Nurudeen Ali and Goosie Tanoh.
The NDC has scheduled Saturday, February 23, 2019 for the party's national presidential primary.
Crowd Politics
According to Professor Alabi, the NDC as a political party "needs fresh air and we need to free it from its current bad image".
Professor Alabi also pointed out that the NDC should avoid what he called "crowd politics", as was the case in the 2012 and 2016 elections.
"In 2016, we filled the entire sports stadium of Accra, but the results of the 2016 ballot were disastrous," he said.
Down vote
He recalled that prior to the 2016 election, some NDC members, aggrieved, had declared that they would not vote and that the party had rejected it without making a conscious effort to respond. to their concerns.
In this election, the NDC lost votes in the Volta and North regions, he said.
He further recalled that in the 2016 elections, the Electoral Commission had sent ballot boxes to 72 higher education institutions and that out of 72, the NDC had lost 69.
Professor Alabi said that the party had won only two members from the Volta region and one from the northern region.
"Our research points to the fact that our children, by the time they arrive at higher education institutions, are moving to different political parties because they complain of negligence, their party not lending or few of them." Pay attention to the student front, "he said.
According to Professor Alabi, the students see no reason why they should follow their parents to support the NDC, saying, "The only way to ensure and encourage our children to join the NDC is to ensure that their Live parents have changed for the better and themselves (students) can attest to the change in quality.
Task ahead
In Professor Alabi's view, if you use a "nonchalant approach" to party organization, the NDC will continue to struggle in opposition.
He therefore warned delegates and NDC members to change direction and refocus on their social democracy skills to remain relevant in state affairs.
As the NDC went to the polls on February 23, 2019 to elect a flag bearer, Professor Alabi stressed the need for a flag bearer with the vision to transform the NDC party and the country.
He also insisted on the competition of ideas and on a flag bearer who could win and serve an eight-year term for the party.
"Give me the opportunity to serve the NDC as a flag bearer. Those of us who want to defend the party's flag-bearer position are not enemies, we only want to serve and contribute our quota to the party and to the welfare of the state, "he said. -he declares.
"I am confident that my experience in youth leadership, national governance, political party leadership, sports management and education will come to fruition when I become the leader of this country," he said. he badured, pointing out that "the owner of the vision is the best sit down behind the wheel to carry out the vision".
This is because the vision owner has the plans and means to execute the vision.
Motivation
On his motivation, Professor Alabi said that he would focus on creating jobs as well as empowering women, children and young people.
He said that once the creation of jobs and unemployment resolved, there would be peace, progress and prosperity in the country.
He said that he would use agriculture, sports, commerce, industry, science and technology to create the jobs needed in the country.
On the party front, Professor Alabi said that the late President Atta Mills had built a national office for the NDC party and that he was going to set up decent offices in the 275 constituencies and ensure that every constituency gets a bank account with a bank account. fixed deposit amount to manage party affairs at the constituency level.
"My motivation is to propose concrete and measurable policies to transform the party and the country as a whole," he concluded.
