• Agyapong says plan is to assassinate journalist and turn around to blame him
Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong told the radio that the main opposition party, the National Democratic Congress, the NDC, was considering killing a journalist.
The journalist in question is Erastus Asare Donkor of Kumasi-based Luv Fm, whom he (Agyapong) had recently threatened due to Erastus’ coverage of the violent unrest in Ejura in the Ashanti region.
According to him, the NDC’s plan was to kill the journalist and turn against him because of his recent threats.
“They have penetrated the young people, they cannot have them. (They targeted the young people) Because I have the popular support of the young people and those I support in the nuclear power plant are thriving, they want to destroy me. So they will find a way to kill this journalist from Joy FM that I threatened.
“Yesterday they went to a meeting saying they’re going to beat and kill the guy and blame me. So if you are at Joy FM and you support the NDC you see how stupid you are because they will easily sacrifice you, ”he added while making submissions on Oman FM on Friday September 3rd.
It is certain, however, that his detractors will be mistaken if they think there will be no evidence of their actions. “If you kill the guy, you think there will be no evidence for you to come and blame me,” he stressed.
He further alleged that pro-NDC commentator Kevin Taylor sent henchmen to threaten him with foreign phone numbers. He promised to report them to National Security and have them arrested.
The NDC, meanwhile, issued a firm statement on September 4 rejecting Agyapong’s claims. They highlighted how a similar threat to journalist Ahmed Hussein-Suale ended in a fatal incident, pointing out that lawmakers do not appear to be learning their lessons.
“Obviously the Frankenstein monster at the nuclear power plant is on the prowl again for blood. We therefore urge all well-meaning Ghanaians to be vigilant to prevent his bloodthirsty antics from manifesting again.
“As a responsible political party, we will officially report this matter to the police and to our diplomatic partners and foreign missions. Ghanaians have had enough of the antics and irresponsible comments and actions of Mr. Kennedy Agyapong, ”reads part of the statement signed by the deputy head of national communication, Godwin Ako Gunn.
