Mr Masawudu Mubarick, who was seeking to participate in Asawase's parliamentary primaries of the main opposition party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), was not allowed to participate in the party's internal polls. Barbara Asamoah, a member of the Ashanti region's party conflict resolution team, said.

Ms. Asamoah explained in her midday paper on Accra100.5FM, Wednesday, July 24, 2019, that Mr. Mubarick had petitioned the party complaining of his inability to apply.

The party, she said, invited Mr. Mubarick to appear before the Dispute Resolution Committee to inform members of the seriousness of his petition and to clarify some issues.

This, she said, can not be described as an authorization to be filed by the applicant.

Mr. Mubarick had previously told the Daily Public newspaper that his forms had been accepted by the party and allowed to run.

But Ms. Asamoah said Mr. Mubarick should be ignored.

"He was not allowed to challenge," she insisted.

Last week, Mr. Umar Yasir, leader of the NDC's Mallam Kataki branch in the Asawase constituency, announced that he would sue the largest opposition party for his refusal to allow Mr. Mubarick to participate in the party's parliamentary primaries.

He accused the party's national leaders, including the secretary general, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, of wanting to ensure that Muntaka Mubarak, the current MP for Asawase, does not object.

On Thursday, July 18, 2019, Mr. Mubarick was locked out with the party's regional office with his supporters when they went on site to file his candidacy.

Their party insists that it can not be part of the process as it is under suspension.
