The regional secretariat of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the east of the country said it would not allow any masked security agents during Saturday's presidential election.
The regional secretary, Mark Oliver Kevor, told the media that the party had entrusted all security operations to the police and had asked the police to take care of villains who would misbehave under the pretext of the police. provide parallel security in any form.
"We warned the regional police commander because, as a party, we decided not to rely on the internal security of the party. We expect the police to take care of the security for the day. We do not want anyone wearing shirts, masks, or anything that comes in as party security or doing security work the same day. We took full commitment from the police and we asked him to fight against miscreants who would misbehave in the name of the Party's internal security agents. "
He added that around 29,000 delegates are expected to vote in the region. The polls begin at 7am and end at 5pm.
The delegates, he said, are composed of branch leaders, constituency leaders, regional leaders, founding members, members of the Regional Seniors Council, members of Parliament and former members appointed by the government.
The election will take place in the 33 constituencies of the region. The equipment and all the necessary logistics have been sent to the constituencies.
He added that the party expects free, fair, transparent and peaceful elections.
The NDC will go to the polls on Saturday, February 23 to elect a flag bearer before the 2020 elections.
