The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has postponed to a later date the election of the flag bearer for Saturday, January 26, until it settles a lawsuit against him by two of its members.
Party members Abdullah Issah and James Kabu Nartey-Oman filed a lawsuit against the party last December for violating the party's presidential primary guidelines.
Kobby Barlon, a NDC deputy national organizer, told GNA on Tuesday that plaintiffs and defendants agreed on an amicable settlement when they appeared before the High Court of Accra on Monday, 14 January.
He added that the court chaired by Georgina Mensah-Datsa had asked the parties to provide the settlement conditions on Thursday, 17 January.
Therefore, the party hierarchy would meet soon and set a new date for the party's presidential election.
In the merits case, the two NDC members ask the court to declare null and void the published guidelines regarding the conduct of the party's presidential primary.
They wanted the court to declare as unlawful the procedures adopted by the National Executive Committee of the party for the preparation and presentation of the guidelines, as well as the amendment without prior consultation of the National Council of Wise Persons.
Both also wanted CEN to organize the elections in a free, fair and transparent manner. way while ensuring inclusivity in accordance with the party constitution.
The case led the party to put an end to the screening of candidates for the presidency of the party, which was to take place on January 20.
To date, seven candidates have submitted their candidacies to challenge the party's flag-bearer position, including: Mr. Alban Kingsford Sumana Bagbin, Second Vice-President of Parliament, Professor Joshua Alabi, former Vice Chancellor of the United States. University of Professional Studies and former President John Dramani Mahama.
The others are; Mr. Sylvester Mensah, former General Manager of the National Health Insurance Scheme, Mr. Nurideen Iddrisu, businessman, Mr. Ekwow Spio-Gabrah, former Minister of Trade and Industry and Mr. Goosie Tanoh, party executive.
