The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) will start voting for the election of its parliamentary candidates later today.

The primaries take place in 157 constituencies of the country where 524 aspirants were allowed to participate.

The NDC has suspended the primary constituencies of Asawase, Ellembelle, Fanteakwa North, Mpohor and Yilo Krobo.

In addition, there will be no elections in 39 other constituencies where incumbent members or candidates aspire without opposition.

Six aspiring primaries were disqualified a few days before the election.

In addition to the NDP presidential candidates, John Mahama, in the 2016 election, his fortune has notably shifted to the Central, Greater Accra and West regions for representation in the legislature.

Of the 23 seats in the central region, the party won only four seats, up from 16 after the 2012 elections.

Also in the Greater Accra region, out of 34 seats, the party has 13 seats, up from 20 after the 2012 elections.

In the former Volta region, which is now the Oti party and the Volta region, the NDC holds 25 seats out of 26, which is still considered disappointing by some observers as the region of the Volta is considered a stronghold of the party.

In the Ashanti region, the weakest area of the party, elections will be held only in three constituencies, namely the plains of Sekyere Afram, Offinso North and Ejura Sekyedumase.

In the eastern region, where the party has only six seats out of 33, it will hold elections in 10 constituencies.

In the Greater Accra region elections will be held in 31 of the 34 constituencies.

Prior to the poll, the party issued guidelines aimed at securing peace in the center, including banning the agents of the various parliamentary candidates from carrying the phones near the polling stations in the centers.

Voters will also not be allowed to carry a phone when they go to vote.

The centers are also supposed to be free zones of countryside.
