Members of the pro-national National Democratic Congress (NDC) self-defense group in the Ashanti region witnessed violence in the party's Suame constituency, leaving him severely wounded
According to news reports collected by MyNewsGh.com within the party, the president refused to return a party vehicle to his possession after a court ordered him to withdraw from his post at following a litigation that was raging.
Last December, a Kumasi court reportedly asked Umar to withdraw after his victory as chairman of the board of directors pending the conclusion of the case.
This development would have deepened the disputes within the CDN members of the constituency, with some insisting that Umar return all the properties belonging to the party in its possession.
Ibrahim Yakubu, who claims that the president of the NDC constituency, Saeed Umar, is not registered on the electoral rolls of the constituency of Suame and is therefore not qualified to preside or represent them at the level of the delegates nationals.
The court chaired by His. Lord K. Frederick K. Tetteh, after hearing a request for an interlocutory injunction, ordered the President not to badume the duties of President until the final decision was rendered.
But the news confirmed that gunmen armed with firearms and other weapons had attacked the president at a meeting between presidents and delegates from the constituencies of Suame and Tafo and from Aspiring to the presidency of the NDC, Sylvester Mensah.
They also started firing and badaulting some delegates, including the president.
