The Secretary General of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), opposition party, Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketia, said the party would commemorate the shooting occurred during the partial election of Ayawaso West Wuogon.

He said the commemoration of this event will remind future generations that once in the history of Ghana, a ruling government has overseen the brutality inflicted on innocent Ghanaian voters in a by-election.

Asiedu Nketia addressed the protesters who took part in the "aagbe wↄ" demonstration of the Inter-party Coalition for National Sovereignty in Accra on Thursday, February 7, 2019.

He was speaking to the protesters in front of Jubilee House after the group petitioned the president through the intermediary of Rockson Bukari, Minister of State in the President's Office.

The protest was intended to seek justice for the victims of the shooting incident in the by – election of the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency in Accra on Thursday, 31 January 2019.

Mr. Asiedu Nketia congratulated the protesters for coming in numbers.

He said that all the demands of the party and the Inter-party Coalition for National Sovereignty were detailed in their petition addressed to all those who count for the security of the country, including President Akufo-Addo.

He said the demonstration made it clear to the police that the NDC could not be intimidated by anyone.

Mr. Asiedu Nketia stated that the police had previously notified them (to the protesters) that they would not allow them to use the routes they (the protesters) had designated for the demonstration, but, realizing that their numbers were sufficient, the police allowed.

He added that the party was submitting a one – week ultimatum to the president as well as to all petitioners to respond to the issues raised in their petition. otherwise, he stated that party leaders and those of the Inter-Party Coalition for National Sovereignty would continue to do what would bring solutions to their demands.


Asiedu Nketia also encouraged NDC deputies to continue fighting for the party and the interests of Ghanaians in parliament.

He added that if the NDC deputies were summoned before the Parliament's Privilege Committee, all NDC deputies would have to submit themselves, noting that no one could do anything to any of the deputies.
