The opposition Democratic National Congress has raised concerns over the electoral register of the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency ahead of the January 31 by-elections.
According to the party, they asked the electoral commission to receive the electoral register, which was done.
However, during their observation during the bagging of documents for by – elections, they noted an increase in the number of voters in each polling station.
They want the EC to provide them with the 2016 voters list.

REFUSAL OF THE ELECTORAL COMMISSION TO PROVIDE THE NDC WITH THE DETAILS OF THE REGISTER OF ELECTORS FOR THE CONSTITUANCE OF AYAWASO WUOGON WEST
The Electoral Commission headed by Jean Mensah appears intent on defeating the NDC in the impending by-election of Ayawaso West Wuogon to which the NDC is participating. We are of this view because of the unreasonable refusal of the EC to provide the NDC with details of the voters' register in the constituency of Ayawaso West Wuogon.
The NDC wrote to the EC in December 2018 for the updated register of the constituency used in the 2016 general elections. The EC responded to the request on 28 December 2018 and provided the Party with an electronic copy of the voters' register with a population of 87,580 voters.
This register was still in the custody of the NDC when the party went to the printing press to observe the conditioning of the election materials. It was at this point that the party discovered that virtually all the polling stations on the register about to be used for the by-election had additions to the voters list. Adding all the additions, there was a new total of 88,745, a difference of 1165 points more than the one that had been provided to the party before. The NDC immediately objected to the use of this register in the conduct of the by-election, unless the party obtains a satisfactory explanation from the BOI.
Subsequently, the party wrote to the EC to obtain further details regarding the register of electors used for the 2016 elections, requesting the following information:
a. The list of postal voters by correspondence
b. The special list of electors
c. The list of electors by proxy
To the party's surprise, the EC refused to provide these details and no follow-up from the EC headquarters today, 28 January 2019, gave the required answer. In the meantime, time is running out because elections are only in 3 days.
The NDC has serious problems with the EC. There are two different registers for an election, with a difference of 1,165 voters. The EC must tell the Party why this big difference between the two registers of the same EC. The NDC feels that this situation is totally unacceptable and until the problem is solved, we have trouble participating in the by-election. Under the circumstances, if the EC does not respond to our concerns, we will inform ourselves.
