Young protesters from the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) presented a petition to the presidency on Tuesday (July 6th) after their “March for Justice” demonstration.
The party’s national youth organizer, George Opare Addo, led some party members to present the petition to government headquarters.
After reading the contents of the petition, he presented it to the deputy chief of staff in charge of operations, Emmanuel Bossman, who assured that the document would be handed over to President Akufo-Addo.
The group also presented a copy of the petition to parliament.
There have been growing concerns about the use of the military for civilian events that should normally be dealt with by the police.
Incidents which angered many include the killing of some Ghanaians in the 2020 elections, the invasion of Parliament by soldiers, the latest murder of two people and the injuries of four others protesting in Ejura in the region of ‘Ashanti.
The brutality of some residents of the Upper West Wa area by soldiers over a suspected stolen phone has also been widely condemned.
Cases of armed robbery and murder are also on the rise in parts of the country.
