Nearly 700 Los Angeles Universities Still in Quarantine for Measles

LOS ANGELES (AP) Nearly 700 people potentially exposed to measles in two Los Angeles universities are still in quarantine three days after health authorities have ordered precautions to contain the spread of the highly contagious disease.

A spokeswoman for California State University, Los Angeles, said Saturday that 106 staff and 550 students had been ordered to stay at home and avoid contact with others.

Thirty students and employees of the University of California at Los Angeles are still in quarantine.

People in quarantine were probably exposed to a person with measles on each campus earlier this month.

Many people have been released after proving their immunity with medical records or tests.

Quarantines are one of the most ambitious efforts by health officials to contain the measles epidemic in the country, where cases have reached their highest level in 25 years.
