Nest does not make a battery-powered doorbell. Google now offers a power cable to drill into the wall.

Nest's smart doorbell can only be installed on homes with the right type of wiring. In order for the product to be accessible to everyone, Google has started selling an adapter that allows you to connect the doorbell to a socket in your home.

This is not the most elegant solution in the world. You have to drill a hole in your door frame to get the wire from inside your house to the doorbell outside. But that's at least a solution, and that might make sense for offices inside large buildings that want to monitor their own door.

The adapter is not manufactured by Google, but by the company Ninety7, mainly known for the manufacture of many smart idiots battery adapters for smart speakers. It's sold through Google's online store, where it's available for $ 29. Many other AC adapters are available from other companies (you can find many cheaper options on Amazon), but this is the first time that Google has sold one directly.

Other companies have solved the wiring problem by releasing battery-powered smart doorbell. Ring's two cheapest smartbells are battery powered and can last anywhere from six months to a year.

That said, it seems that ringing a battery door can lead to some complications. August recently launched a battery-powered doorbell that was removed from the market a few weeks after it was released due to connectivity issues. We do not know what's wrong, but a battery-powered smart device will have to limit its use of battery-depleting features, such as Wi-Fi, which could lead to problems.
