Netflix canceled the Santa Clarita diet, starring Drew Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant, after three seasons.

The zombie comedy created by Victor Fresco released its third season on March 29 on the streaming platform, which Netflix has now confirmed will be the last in the series.

In a statement (via the Hollywood Reporter), Netflix said: "The world had never known a zom-com before the Santa Clarita diet, and we owe it to Victor Fresco to bring this idea to Netflix.

'To their astonishing credit, the incredible Drew Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant were totally crazy, with a strange talent for the comedy that brought Sheila and Joel Hammond to a dynamic life, even if one of them was undead.

We thank Victor, Drew and Timothy, along with their fellow executive producers Tracy Katsky, Aaron Kaplan, Chris Miller and Ember Truesdell, as well as the terrific cast including Liv Hewson and Skyler Gisondo, and the team's Three hilarious seasons for Netflix members to discover for years to come. & # 39;

Santa Clarita Diet followed Sheila (Drew Barrymore) and Joel (Timothy Olyphant) as suburban realtors, until their lives were turned upside down when the first one was turned into a zombie.

The cancellation of the show is a surprise because it has garnered praise from critics and attracted major stars, but it is not possible to know if this translates into a high audience.

A number of Netflix salons have their last bow this year, including Unimmobilable Kimmy Schmidt which ended in January and Orange Is The New Black later this year.

Santa Clarita Diet is available for streaming on Netflix.
