Proposed parliamentary chamber
The Council of Parliamentary Services said that the construction of a new House of Parliament had been removed from its program.
The decision was made following a meeting devoted to examining the controversial issue that left many Ghanaians angry.
Kate Addo, Acting Director of Public Affairs of Parliament, said: "After considering the comments made by well-meaning Ghanaians, the Commission has withdrawn the development of the new chamber block from its current program".
Ghanaians protested the PSB's decision to build a new complex for Parliament at an estimated cost of $ 200 million.
Majority leader and Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu, had justified the decision to build the new multifunctional complex.
He said that the distance between majority MPs and MPs is too short and that a minister can easily hit hard or slap another minister when the situation warms up.
Ghanaians hope that the decision will not come back at all in the future, although the PSB says that the development of the parliamentary enclave and the creation of a new block of room and offices "remain an essential and integral part of future projects in order to set up a strong, responsible, responsive and transparent parliament to serve its purpose.
