New Hampshire man treated for rabies after a bat bite

South Hampton, N.H. – A man from South Hampton, in northern Mbadachusetts, undergoes a treatment for rabies after being suddenly bitten by a bat while he was trying to use his iPad.

Roy Syvertson, 86, still does not know how the bat snuck into his home and made his way into his lap. Since then, he has traveled all over the house to make sure there are no more.

"I was stunned," he said. "It was out of the question that he was there, but he was."

The uninvited creature was found stuck in Syverston's iPad – something he'd been holding on his lap for an entire hour.

Aged 86, he admits that it's almost too bizarre to be true, but he has the photos and first-hand experience to prove it.

Syvertson says the hidden surprise has come out. as he was about to close the electronic device.

He kept it between the cover and the back of the iPad.

"I managed to squeeze the ball very hard and he did not try to get out more than that," he said.

Syvertson hurried out of his South Hampton home to free the creature from the wild.

"I stuck it on this corner of the bricks and it hangs very well with its little hooks," he explains.

The next morning he was dead.

"That's where I knew I really had a problem," said Syvertson.

The New Hampshire Department of Fisheries and Game accepted and encouraged him to begin treatment for rabies.

It's a good thing that he did it because officials claim that the bat has since been tested positive for rabies.

"There may be another lurking here, I do not know!" said Syvertson. "Sometimes, if you're unlucky, you can be hit a second time by lightning."

Syvertson has received three of four rabies vaccines and told Boston 25 News that it's not so much the needles that it disturbs, but the paranoia it has caused.

"When I open my cereal box, I do not want to pour a bat," he said. "When I open the fridge, I look in. Maybe I become a little paranoid.

"He can not come from nowhere, who knows."
