In just two weeks, Game of thrones will return to HBO for its eighth and final season, and Monday the network has released two new promotional videos for the show. Most of them are full of previously viewed clips, but of course, keen-eyed fans will work overtime to spot even the smallest flashes of something new.
The first clip, titled "Together", is a quick patchwork showing Jon Snow (Harington Kit) and Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) on the track with the troops while Tyrion (Peter Dinklage) says, "We have to fight together now, or die. "
But the most striking clips, which appear in both videos, show The two remaining Daenerys dragons flambée over the head when various characters rise up in shock. Rumors immediately began that Jon Snow himself, suspected of being able to ride a dragon because of his Targaryen heritage, could be on one of these monsters.
Personally, I think he's riding one of the dragons, but to be honest, in this clip, the characters might look shocked because a damn dragon flies over their heads, regardless of who they are.
The second clip, titled "Survival", begins on a darker note, with Jon Snow praying or maybe reflecting in front of a weirwood, and Arya Stark (Maisie Williams) standing behind him. "Think back to where we started, now it's just us," says the narration, and if you do not remember poor Ned, Catelyn, Robb, Rickon and all the other sad souls from the dead, your heart is probably as cold as the king of the night.
Jaime is immersed in the battle, Cersei still looks pretty satisfied and confident, and sweaty and scared Arya runs to save his life. Nothing shocking, really, but after several months of winter without anything, we will take it.
Game of Thrones returns to HBO on April 14th.
