Dan Botwe Reg Minister of Regional Reorganization and Development Dan Botwe

It is unnecessary to explain why specific areas in newly created regions have been selected as capital at the expense of others.

It is the opinion of the Minister of Regional Reorganization and Development, Dan Botwe.

According to him, he is not interested in knowing exactly why the capitals selected for the new regions were created because it is the sole prerogative of the president.

"We have consulted a lot but that does not mean that you are going to talk to each individual … There should be a reason why the President chose the capital … I do not need to know, and that is not enough. Not much interested. . Mr. Speaker, we will ask for our point of view, and we will seek the views of others and he will make the decision … [in explaining it], He said Wednesday to Bernard Avle, the host of Citi TV's Point of View show.

Due to anxiety and high expectations regarding areas to be named regional capitals, some suggested that the government provide explanations as to why specific areas were selected to be capital cities.

The naming of regional capitals for the new regions has become a controversial topic as several cities in the new region have been jostling for the capital for several months.

Regions such as Salaga and Nkoranza expressed dissatisfaction at not being named regional capitals of the Savannah and Bono East regions respectively.

In Salaga, angry youth expressed their dissatisfaction by burning down the constituency office in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and destroying billboards.

Like other affected regions, they fear that development will focus only on regions designated as regional capitals.

But Dan Botwe has given badurances that development will be extended to all new regions and will not focus solely on new capitals.

He said the government is working hard to ensure that development, which is an essential foundation for the creation of new regions, is seen in these regions.

For the region of Ahafo, the capital announced by President Akufo-Addo is Gaoso.

Techiman and Nalerigu have been designated as capitals of the East Bono and Northeast regions, while Damango has been designated as the capital of the Savannah region.
