The government plans to implement a new placement policy for admissions to higher education institutions across the country.

The Minister of State for Higher Education, Prof. Kwesi Yankah, revealed at a three-day workshop devoted to the review of the draft policy document of higher education in Koforidua, the capital of the eastern region, this weekend.

According to him, the draft guidance document presented by the nine-member committee, chaired by Professor Cliff Tagoe, would serve as a reference for higher education in the country.

Professor Yankah explained that the project as a whole was part of the Ministry of Education's plans to transform the education sector in line with the government's vision.

He said the Ministry of Education was fully committed to improving higher education in Ghana, adding that the policy document on higher education would ensure the conformity of institutions and institutions. minimize irregularities and deviations.

He added that the Ministry of Education, vice chancellors and clerks had visited the United Kingdom and Nigeria to understand how the system works in both countries.

He revealed that a national committee for centralized admissions to universities, chaired by Professor Adow Obeng, former vice-chancellor of the University of Cape Coast and current president of Presbyterian University College, would be officially inaugurated on Thursday, January 17, 2019 for process.

Jonathan N. Ayertey, professor, said the draft policy document would cover institutional governance, equity and access, quality and relevance, admissions, entry requirements, conversion into credits, program development, among others.

During the forum, the committee proposed a Centralized Admission and Placement Service (CAPS) to replace the current, expensive and stressful system.

In the meantime, the document would be submitted to the Government for consideration and approval.

Participants included vice-chancellors from all state universities, officials from the Ministry of Education, representatives of regulatory bodies, including the National Council of Higher Education ( NCTE), the National Council of Accreditation (NAB), the National Council of Examinations of the Professions and Technicians (NABTEX).

The others were the Conference of Rectors and Vice-Chancellors of Technical Universities, the Association of University Teachers of Ghana (UTAG), the Union of Teachers and Education Workers (TEWU), the Education Reform Secretariat of the Ministry of Education and some renowned educators from Ghana.
