The Model S was Tesla's first "real car", and its success was immediate. Launched in 2012, he won the Motor Trend year car award. This year, Motor Trend has named the Model S its biggest car of the year.

Everything is fine, but the S model is getting longer, and consumers are not so excited about it. Sales have declined, partly because the cheaper 3 model is cooler, but also because the S model, as bright as it may be, has become obsolete.

Seven years are at the limit of what most automakers would allow for a model. The designs are usually new every five to seven years and the cycle of a model is usually updated.

Tesla has changed the Model S a few times and the automaker has said that live software updates could give owners a new car feel. But all the same, a design from the early 2010s will become boring by the end of the decade, even if it is designed to last.
