New York City has warned the Brooklyn yeshivas to maintain the order to exclude unvaccinated students from courts or to face violations and a possible closure.
The ordinance, which includes the Yeshivas of Borough Park and Williamsburg, was issued in December 2018 and applied to unvaccinated students against measles. A Williamsburg yeshiva contravening the order has been badociated with more than 40 cases of measles.
"Any non-compliant school will immediately be violated," the health department said in a statement on Monday.
"Most of these cases of measles were unvaccinated or incompletely vaccinated, there were no deaths badociated with this outbreak, although there were complications, including 21 hospitalizations and five admissions to the intensive care unit. " Most patients with measles are under 18 years old.
Since October, Brooklyn has recorded 285 cases of measles, including 246 children. According to the New York Department of Health, the outbreak began when an unvaccinated child caught measles while traveling to Israel.
"Since then, new people from Brooklyn and Queens have been vaccinated and contracted measles while in Israel," the department's website said.
Dr. Oxiris Barbot, Health Commissioner in New York, said, "As a pediatrician, I know that the MMR vaccine is safe and effective."
"This epidemic is fueled by a small group of anti-vaxxers in these neighborhoods, spreading false dangerous information based on false scientific data.
"We stand with the majority of the community members who have worked hard to protect their children and those at risk.
"As Pbadover approaches, we must do everything in our power to ensure that more people get the vaccine."
