New York subway service returns to normal

NEW YORK (AP) – Latest news on the suspension of seven subway lines in New York City (local time):

7:45 p.m.

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority reports that the service is returning to normal on seven subway lines that were shut down during the evening.

Spokesman Tarek Shams said all trains could not start at the same time.

The agency said that a network communication problem had interrupted service on trains 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and S on Friday night. These lines serve large parts of Manhattan, the Bronx and Brooklyn.

Several subway lines in New York City are hanging back and forth due to a communication problem with the network during the arduous day of transportation.

The stop comes as the city prepares for a hot weekend.

The MTA officials were not able to immediately determine the cause of the outage.
