(Reuters) – LEICESTER CITY 0 NEWCASTLE UNITED 1

Newcastle United rallied after two straight defeats to beat Leicester City 1-0 with Ayoze Perez on Friday and took a 10-point lead over the Premier League relegation zone.

The Spaniard looked at the ball in the upper right corner of Matt Ritchie's center to give the advantage to Newcastle after 32 minutes, though Leicester dominated ball control.

Salomon Rondon had almost outstripped the visitors before that when he hit the bar with a powerful free kick at 30 yards.

Leicester, who was looking to secure a spot in Europe next season with new coach Brendan Rodgers, has found striker Jamie Vardy.

Vardy had scored six goals in five games under the colors of Rodgers, who had been replaced by Celtic. However, apart from an alleged chance of escape, he had little impact on the match.

Leicester remains seventh with 47 points, while Newcastle climbed to 13th out of 38 with a first away win since December.
