Newcastle refuses to comment on claims that the owner, Mike Ashley, is willing to accept a £ 350 million club sale.

According to a report, the long-running search for a buyer by the sportswear tycoon is about to end while Dubai-based billionaire Sheikh Khaled bin Zayed Al Nehayan has negotiated terms to remove the club.

However, Press Association Sport understands that although Sheikh Khaled has expressed his interest, no agreement has yet been finalized.

The official line of St James' Park Monday morning was a farm "no comment" in the midst of a wave of excited speculation about Tyneside.

The group Bin Zayed, of which Sheikh Khaled – the cousin of the owner of Manchester City, Sheik Mansour – is the president.

It is understood that several evenings have sparked renewed interest in the club over the past few weeks, although, given the public glow in which Amanda Staveley and Peter Kenyon led their failed bid to seal a control, potential buyers have been warned that secrecy is of utmost importance.

Newcastle has been on sale for a good part of its current owner's 12 years, but was last marketed in October 2017, with the Sports Direct executive admitting he could not afford to move it to higher level.

Meanwhile, the club has stabilized in the Premier League under the leadership of Rafael Benitez, who is currently in negotiations with the hierarchy for a new contract with his existing contract due to expire at the end of next month.

Sheikh Khaled tried to buy Liverpool last year, but the proposed deal was not deemed credible.
