News about Whatsapp: soon every user receives his own QR code

In other applications, the idea of ​​identifying with a QR code is already known. There is growing evidence that each Whatsapp user will soon receive a personal QR code. This can be used for fast exchange of contact data, but could in the future allow even more functions.

Appeared on iOS a few months ago, apparently just before its release

Currently, QR codes are only used with Whatsapp if users want to connect to the corresponding desktop application. Wabetainfo had already discovered in iOS development releases earlier this year, however, early indications that QR codes in Whatsapp will soon have more tasks. As you can read now, developers seem to be preparing to badign their own QR code to each user account, which can then be used to quickly and easily share their own contacts with other users.

As Wabetainfo writes, after scanning the personal QR code of other users, Whatsapp automatically populates all relevant fields of the contact form and adds them to the address book. The QR code is generated after the delivery of the function, but can also be reset at any time and recreated. Like the suspicious Wabetainfo, this feature has probably been incorporated primarily to allow businesses, for example, to revoke publicly visible QR codes when in doubt.

New features are expected

As Allfacebook writes in its badysis, it should first and foremost be a lot easier for companies, for example, to establish a connection with customers by using a QR code at the front desk without having to store these phone numbers and to add contact details. However, the simple exchange of contact data is only the beginning of what Whatsapp could plan for QR codes in the future.

As shown by the rapid evolution in Asia, QR codes can also be used for payment services. It is conceivable that Whatsapp will allow payments between individuals and businesses on the basis of personal QR codes in the future. Whatsapp Payments has already been extensively tested in India – but no such announcement has been made for the Western market.
