The pursuit of Bruno Fernandes by Manchester United this summer has been made more difficult by the signing of Atletico Madrid.
The 24-year-old has appeared this summer on the radar of some of Europe's biggest clubs, after an impressive season with Sporting and the lifting of the League of Nations trophy with Portugal.
United was thought to be pursuing the midfield as Liverpool, Tottenham and Manchester City relaxed in the battle to sign the Portuguese.
However, the Portuguese publication A Bola reports that Atletico Madrid is preparing an offer to buy Fernandes, estimated at about 44 million pounds sterling and raising to 53.5 million pounds sterling with additions.
Atletico has a lot of money to spend with Antoine Griezmann who has to sign for Barcelona for £ 105 million and Lucas Hernandez for Bayern Munich for £ 72 million.
