Manchester United are not going to attack the transfer market to sign a replacement for David de Gea if the Spaniard wants a summer outing after rejecting a new contract.

De Gea has more than a year to spare on his current contract after United has triggered an extension, but their last salary offer was significantly lower than the £ 350,000 per week it's claimed.

Rather than risk losing the 28-year-old for anything in the next year, United could decide to cash out about £ 60 million and allocate the necessary funds for the reconstruction of this summer.

However, the Daily Mail reports that a new goalkeeper will not appear on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's wish list if De Gea leaves, and that he will instead promote Sergio Romero as the club's new No.1.

United had talks about the substitutes, with Ajax goalkeeper Andre Onana and Barcelona coach Jasper Cillessen and Everton coach Jordan Pickford.

But Solskjaer decided to stay with Romero and focus on strengthening other areas of the team, with United boss seeking to bring five new recruits into the fields.

Romero, who has 96 caps for Argentina, is widely considered the best substitute goalkeeper in the Premier League and plays his role diligently since his signing by Louis van Gaal in 2015.

He made no appearance in the Premier League last season. De Gea played every minute despite a dive in form, but he kept two goals in four FA Cup outings.

Solskjaer will also keep an eye on young goaltender Dean Henderson, who has excelled in loan at newly promoted Sheffield United, but he should be sent on loan to the Blades to acquire a full year of experience in the Premier League.
