Manchester United called on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in December, the Red Devils icon taking over from Mourinho in the interim until the end of the season.
The 45-year-old had a good start at Old Trafford, leading them to seven wins in a row.
Manchester United beat Cardiff 5-1 in their first game, after winning wins over Huddersfield, Bournemouth, Newcastle, Reading, Tottenham and Brighton ever since.
However, the Manchester Evening News reports that Solskjaer has hardly won the role.
Instead, the red devils considered White.
White spent a year at Old Trafford between 2002 and 2003, helping them to win the Premier League title under Sir Alex Ferguson.
He has made an impressive career start in management since then.
Blanc did wonders in Bordeaux and also impressed as manager of the France team.
He also impressed PSG, with the 53-year-old who led him to three Ligue 1 titles on the go.
The men say that White, however, missed his chances of taking over at United.
And that's apparently because he preferred to hold this position permanently, rather than playing the acting role announced by the club.
Blanc has been unemployed since leaving PSG in 2016.
However, a comeback from United now seems unlikely with Solskjaer coaxing the best of his side.
Many now want the 45-year-old player to stay past the end of the current campaign.
Despite this, the icon of the Red Devils, Gary Neville, is far from convinced.
The legend of United says, "I think when he [Solskjaer] the club could not have been lower in terms of waiting, there was a bad feeling around the club.
"He did an incredible job, he put himself in the frame and he continues to win.
"I think it's the best start for any Manchester United manager in club history. It's really unbelievable.
"The players at the end of Manchester United obviously did not try Mourinho, they just opened and closed the tap.
"The difference is incredible but I must admit that I have doubts about this group of players.
"They can just turn on and off like a tap, it does not rebadure me to be able to bring back Manchester United to the title, but at least they do it to the maximum of their abilities"
