Neymar will miss both legs of the first leg of the last 16 games of the Champions League between Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United, after being away for a dozen weeks due to a foot injury.

The 26-year-old Brazilian striker, the world's most expensive player, injured Strasbourg in the Coupe de France last week.

PSG will travel to Old Trafford on February 12, with the return leg in France on March 6.

A statement posted on the PSG website said: "Tuesday evening, Paris St Germain has badembled a group of world-renowned medical experts at the Ooredoo Training Center to conduct a thorough examination of Neymar Jr's right foot injury. , suffered against Strasbourg Tour de France Cup of France on 23 January.

"After a detailed badysis by the specialists, a consensus emerged on the conservative treatment of Neymar Jr's injury in the fifth right metatarsal.

"Informed of this recommendation, the Brazilian international striker of Paris St Germain has approved this protocol. As a result, Neymar Jr should return to the field within 10 weeks.

"Paris St Germain are giving their strongest support and encouragement to Neymar Jr to overcome this injury, with the courage and determination that the player has always shown."

Neymar injured the same foot late last season and struggled to be fit for the Brazilian World Cup in Russia, where he lacked physical fitness in the group stages.
