Baltimore Ravens player Michael Pierce was deeply affected by his trip to Israel earlier this year. So much so that he chose to honor the country – and the Israel Collective organization – during the NFL's next "My Cause, My Cleats" campaign.
As part of the campaign, more than 800 NFL players will be wearing cleats on the field this week to showcase the charities of their choice.
Pierce, a native of Alabama, unveiled his blue and white studded shoes in a video posted by Israel Collective, a non-profit badociation.
"Israel Collective changed my life a lot," says Pierce in the video, introducing his new crampons. "Having the Israeli flag in front and center was important to me – I needed it to be exactly where it is."
Israel Collective is a branch of Christians United for Israel and employs it to build relationships between young American Christians and the Jewish state, regularly bringing groups to visit the Holy Land. In March, Pierce was part of an NFL delegation that traveled to Israel with the organization.
"The message for me is just the unity and the connection I feel with this country," Pierce said. The group visited the Wailing Wall, went to Jordan and played football with disabled children and adults at the Shalva Center in Jerusalem.
"Go out there and see the difference and see exactly what culture is: I went to Shabbat dinner, I just enjoyed the company and I learned so many different customs and things that 39 they make that I've never known, "he said." I hope people will read about [this] and then maybe go out there – if they can of course – and see exactly what's going on. "
