It could be said that Haloti Ngata, of the NFL, leaves the match at its peak.
The Super Bowl defensive tackle announced his retirement on Monday at the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro, ending his 13-year career "at the top", according to a sign he had held at the top.
It makes sense that a 6-foot-4, 340-pound man talks about a career on a mountain – the highest peak in Africa with 19,341 feet.
Aged 35, he spent last season with the Philadelphia Eagles, three with the Detroit Lions and nine first with the Baltimore Ravens, with whom he won the Super Bowl in 2013.
"Leave no regrets, just peace knowing that I gave everything and that I had a lot of fun doing it," he wrote in his Instagram legend.
Ngata, five times selected at the Pro Bowl, recorded 515 tackles (190 badisted) and 32.5 sacks, according to NFL.com. Also give the man a credit for an epic farewell.
