NHIA management and staff welcome the announcement of the removal of their chair, Dr. Annor, by the President.
For over 24 months, the staff at the Authority has complained about the rude and unprofessional management style of the director, Dr. Annor. They say that it was extremely difficult for managers and their badistants to have access to their own boss.
According to most employees, it would be difficult for anyone to put themselves in the shoes of former President and CEO, Sylvester A Mensah, whose friendly and focused approach has broken down barriers and his style of Clearly inclusive management has brought professionalism public institution.
They remind weekly management meetings, semi-annual strategy sessions, director performance contracts and performance management systems, annual stakeholder sessions and, most importantly, end-of-year packages to all Staff. The discipline and order that characterized the period before Dr. Annor's appearance collapsed. The number of active members has decreased considerably and the use has decreased. Public confidence in the system has been declining, and Dr. Annor has been around for several years.
The name Sylvester Mensah or Chef, as they affectionately call him, seems to be on the lips of many. They call him Ghana's NHIA father. It seems that the government has been too slow in removing Dr. Annor from his position as Director General. "He was too partisan and vindictive for no reason," said a staff member. Several licensed staff members are currently in court with the NHIA. There is however a concern about his replacement. It is badumed that Dr. Baba Dzane-Selby, Deputy Director General for Operations, will badume the role of Director General until the government finds a better replacement.
"The NHIA is too important to be given to people in short supply," said another staff member.
