The head of the African Union (AU) observation mission, former Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn, said Saturday's presidential and national badembly elections were generally peaceful and orderly.
Desalegn observed this as he was leading an observer team in some of the FCT's voting units, and said there were several observers in the main geographic regions of the country.
The former prime minister said that the observation mission was in accordance with the African Charter on Democracy, Elections and Governance and the Charter on Election Observation and Code of Conduct .
"Our observation mission is deployed in the main geographical areas of Nigeria and up to now, our observation is that these elections are conducted in a generally peaceful and orderly manner, far from the reports we receive," he said. Desalegn.
"There are areas that need special attention, especially the delay in time.
"We observed that in some polling stations (voting time) had been delayed for an hour and 45 minutes, of course, it started and we will see, at the end of this election, if all voters are satisfied and have the chance to elect their candidate. "
The head of mission further stated that the postponement of the general elections by the National Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) had contributed to the process being peaceful, calm and orderly.
He also expressed the hope that the INEC would be able to solve the few problems identified.
"There has been a delay in sending the material to a polling station called Nyanya and the vote has not started yet and I think that is one of the failures that we hope the INEC resolves as quickly as possible. "
The Nigerian News Agency (NAN) announced that Desalegn and his team left at 7:30 to go to eight CTF polling stations.
The team visited Central Unit 009 of Wuse District 3 Public High School, as well as Central Unit 001, Tudun Wada Public High School and Model High School UP 026. from Maitama.
The other units visited were PU 005, Gwarimpa village, PU 024, Gwarimpa area, Gishiri, PU 001 in Orozo junior high school, PU 014 Jikwoyi primary school, and the post office polling station. from zone 10.
The Chef de Mission was accompanied to Nigeria by a team of seven, including Ms. Minata Cessouma, Commissioner for Political Affairs, AU Commissioners, who is also Deputy Chef de Mission.
The Nigerian News Agency (NAN) estimated that about 60 election observers had been deployed in different states of the federation.
