The Nigerian federal government said Friday, February 22, a public holiday to allow voters to travel to the polls reported Saturday to do so.
The country's Interior Ministry said in a statement that the holiday would not affect essential service providers and banks.
The most populous nation in Africa goes to the polls to elect a president and parliamentarians. It was originally scheduled for Saturday, February 16, but has been postponed to the last hour due to logistical arrangements.

"This day without work will allow citizens to return to their control units for the presidential and legislative elections," the statement said.
