Nigerian officials say security forces thwarted another attempted kidnapping of students in a late night attack on a school in Kaduna state on Sunday.
Thirty-nine students are still missing following a raid on a college in the same state on Thursday.
A Kaduna state government official said thanks to the swift intervention of police and soldiers, the gunmen were unable to seize any high school students on the outskirts of Ikara town. .
“Between the late hours of Saturday evening and the early hours of today (Sunday), suspected bandits stormed the government science high school, Ikara … in an attempt to kidnap students,” said Samuel Aruwan , the Commissioner for Home Affairs and Security. quoted by the AFP news agency.
Mr. Aruwan said the school’s 307 students were safe.
The Nigerian government has come under heavy criticism following five mass school kidnappings in recent months.
Authorities have not commented on videos the gunmen shared using the social media accounts of abducted students on Thursday.
