Nigeria recruits logistics provider Boko Haram

ABUJA, May 24
(Xinhua / GNA) –
Nigeria confirmed Thursday the arrest of a 24-year-old man who had been arrested
specialized in logistical support to the terrorist group Boko Haram in the
country of the north-east of the country.

The suspect,
named Aliyu Muhammed, was arrested on 25 April, following an intelligence report
collected by the security agency, according to Ibrahim Abdullahi, party leader
Civil Security and Defense Corps (NSCDC) in the state of Borno, in the north of the country.

Muhammed was on
his way of supplying materials to Boko Haram when he was caught by security
agents.

Abdullahi said
Xinhua that the suspect and his accomplices played different roles in
committing various attacks on public buildings, religious centers and markets
Maiduguri, capital of the state of Borno, and its surroundings.

Muhammed, who
claimed to be a driver of self-shoots in the metropolis of Maiduguri, said that he was
recruited by Boko Haram six months ago.

April 7, almost
Three weeks before his arrest, five people were confirmed killed and 45 others
were injured after a double suicide bombing against the Muna community, the
Maiduguri, birthplace of Boko Haram, where the suspect
exploited.

Northeastern Nigeria
region was a stronghold of the extremist group Boko Haram. On past
months, the Nigerian government launched several military operations to
eliminate the terrorist threat.

Boko Haram has
been accused of the death of more than 20,000 people and the displacement of 2.3 people.
