Nigeria's Federal Government Establishes Funding Mechanism for Patients With Confirmed Cases of Lbada Fever in the Country. The Director General of the Nigerian Center for Disease Control (NCDC), Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu, said Sunday In Abuja the health fund was to make sure that money does not become an obstacle for patients who wish to have access to treatment for Lbada fever.

He added that the government is preparing, through the Fund for Basic Health Care, new funding to cover the cost of treating confirmed cases of Lbada fever patients.

According to him, a process is under way on how to handle this and he is at the heart of discussions at all levels of government at this time.

"The goal is to ensure that the ability to pay is not an obstacle to access to treatment for public health diseases such as Lbada fever," said Ihekweazu.

He said the government, through the NCDC, was making efforts to ease the burden of treating Lbada fever on patients, pending the launch of the health care fund. .

"At the federal level, we have ensured that basic treatment costs are covered; Of course, when you are admitted to a hospital, other fees are billed to you.

"What we have done with teaching hospitals is to make sure these costs are kept to a minimum.

"In some cases, we are able to treat patients completely free, in others they still have to pay. In Nigeria, what we have done in all treatment centers is that no patient has ever been denied because of their inability to pay and no patient has been detained in a hospital for to pay.

"So, finally, either beforehand or at the end of this treatment period, we make sure everyone gets treatment," he said.

Ihekweazu urged Nigerians to take all possible preventive measures, such as

principle of food storage and keep a clean environment to ward off rodents.
