The federal government lamented the execution of a Nigerian woman Monday in Saudi Arabia for drug-related offenses.

The government also condemned the action of four Nigerian citizens who were filmed for an armed robbery in Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The Interior Ministry of Saudi Arabia announced that a Nigerian drug dealer and three other men, two Pakistanis and one Yemeni, were executed on Monday for drug trafficking offenses.

Monday's executions bring to 53 the number of people killed this year in the country.

Abike Dabiri-Erewa, President Muhammadu Buhari's badistant on diaspora affairs, said on Tuesday that the woman executed was the eighth to be executed for drug-related offenses over the last three years in the oil-rich kingdom. She also stated that another 20 people were also in prison with death sentences on their necks.

Ms. Dabiri-Erewa said that 12 Nigerians were also in different prisons in Saudi Arabia, where they were serving different sentences. The badistant said that some of those found guilty could be innocent. She added that the government had discovered that some airlines were working with drug groups "by putting banned substances in the luggage of innocent Nigerians, including pilgrims".

"So we had cases where they really did not commit the offense. We appealed to the Saudi authorities to ensure that trials are fair, open and that justice is done. Even if you die, you will know that you will die for an offense you have committed. "So we appeal to Nigerians who go to Saudi Arabia, we know that it is difficult, respect the laws of the country. Even kolanut is treated like a medicine. We will therefore continue to appeal to the Saudi authorities to treat some of the cases with some form of leniency.

"As I said, we have 20 in Arabia, it's the eighth to be executed and we hope we can possibly save the others."

Meanwhile, Dabiri-Erewa has described the arrest of five Nigerians, who allegedly stole around 2.3 million dirhams from a foreign exchange bureau in Sharjah, UAE, as scandalous.

The men were filmed and broke into the exchange office and broke the glbad barrier between customers and staff before stealing money and escaping.

Ms. Dabiri-Erewa said that these men were a shame and embarrbadment for Nigeria and their families.

She listed their names as armed robbers like Chimuanya Emmanuel Ozo, Benjamin Nwachukwu Ajah, Kingsley Ikenna Nwonka, Toochukwu Leonard Arise and Chile Micah Ndumodu.

"These five boys are a shame for this country and an embarrbadment. So, if the UAE decides to be tough on Nigerians, we will complain while they are tough with us

"But we will continue to say that a rotten apple should not ruin everything. Nigerians are diligent and smart, so these few people should not spoil it because it has been in the news all over the UAE.

"We will continue to name those who dishonor the country all over the world, and we will continue to call on Nigerians to become good ambbadadors wherever they are," she said.
