Nigerian bankers pledge to support digital banking

LAGOS, August 22
(Xinhua / GNA) – The Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN) has given its
its full support for improving financial inclusion and digital banking for the
economic growth, said a manager.

Digital banking has
become strategic in strengthening the economy, Peter Ashade,
President, said at a press conference Wednesday in Lagos, Nigeria's economic center.

He told reporters
that digital banking has been one of the most important developments in
the banking sector in its long history with its most important features being
speed and convenience.

According to him,
bank customers can access their accounts, view their statements,
transfers, pay your bills and more, all in the comfort of your home, office or

Ashade says
the demand for electronic banking services was on the rise and essential for
inclusive economic growth.

Other bankers at the
press conference told Xinhua that Nigeria's economy could be in a difficult
period but with digitization at the heart of the national banking strategy,
financial inclusion had the opportunity to grow.

In a revised version
National Financial Inclusion Strategy Released in January, Nigeria's Central Bank
targeted achievement of the financial inclusion of 80% of the country's adults
population by 2020.
