As part of the crackdown on false news ahead of Nigeria's election in February, a new website, CrossCheck Nigeria, has been launched.
This will allow journalists from newsrooms across the country to work together to investigate and refute rumors, particularly those circulating on social media.
The public will be able to provide advice, post photos, videos and other information via WhatsApp or the CrossCheck Nigeria website that they wish to check.
Completed investigations will only appear on the site if at least five partners have approved the work, the AFP news agency, which is participating in the project, said.
About 46 journalists from 15 media organizations participated in a two-day "training camp" in Lagos organized by the sponsors of the First Draft News project, a British non-profit group, and the International Center for Research in Technology. information (ICIR), Nigeria's Tribune. paper reports.
Dayo Aiyetan, ICIR executive director who oversees the project, said that Facebook, Twitter and WhatsApp had become "ways for politicians to spread misinformation, rumors, lies and false information.
