Benue State Police Command said it had arrested one of four young men who gang-raped a teenage girl in the Obi local government area.
Recall that a young girl was allegedly gang raped by four boys in the Obi local administration area, in Benue state.
Following the development, state governor Samuel Ortom, unhappy with the incident, demanded an investigation into the rape case.
Ortom, who called the act barbaric, dehumanizing and unfortunate, called for the perpetrators to be arrested immediately.
However, spokeswoman for the state police command, DSP, Catherine Anene, confirmed in a statement on Tuesday that one of the suspects had been arrested.
Anene said the incident happened on Sunday, January 24, 2021.
She further revealed that the culprits made a video of their inhuman act and posted it on the Internet.
According to her, the victim who had been in hospital since the incident was released after recovering.
“The victim was on her way to visit her sister in Itakpa-Ito when four armed men stopped her on the way, dragged her into a room and had sex with her.
“They made a video of the act and uploaded it to social media for public consultation. However, she was rushed to hospital where she received treatment and was discharged.
“One of the suspects has been arrested and efforts are being made to arrest the other suspects at large.
“The command will definitely bring the perpetrators of such an inhuman act to reserve,” she added.
