Some of the closed stores
A group of unidentified men forcibly closed about twenty Nigerian-run shops at Suame Magazine in Kumasi, in the Ashanti region.
Nigerian traders claim that they have been targeted, apparently for the involvement of Nigerian nationals in the recent alleged kidnappings in Ghana.
Chief Kizito Obiora, president of the Association of Nigerian Traders, told our correspondent Beatrice Spio-Garbrah of the Ashanti region that they had been attacked since last Thursday.
He revealed that they had been forced to close their stores since last Friday and throughout the weekend. The perpetrators of these acts require that they leave the country, their country, Nigeria.
Chief Kizito, who said he reported the case to the police, wants a swift intervention, noting that "Nigerians at Suame Magazine are following the law."
According to him, when the attacks began last week, the police intervened to restore order, but she added that unidentified young men returned Monday to force their stores.
The Ashanti Regional Police Command has since opened investigations into this matter.
