Nike plans to sell its Hurley surfwear line, sources told Reuters last week.
According to people familiar with the case, Nike is considering various options for its surfwear brand, acquired in 2002, at a time when surfwear was raging. The company said it would not comment on what she called rumors and speculation.

We decided to check the brand's products to see why Nike was considering selling it, but we had trouble finding it anywhere. We called different stores Macy's, Nordstrom, Dick's Sporting Goods and Nike in the New York area, but none of them seemed to offer Hurley branded products in the stores.
A Kohl's in a shopping mall in Jersey City, New Jersey, claimed on the phone that they were actually carrying Hurley merchandise, but we were unlucky when we visited the store.
Although Hurley still sells its products online, but the lack of brand presence in physical stores probably has a lot to say about the current appeal of the brand for consumers.

In general, the appeal of surf clothing is down. Billabong, one of the world's largest surfwear brands, may have begun the downward spiral of surfwear in the early 2010s as sales declined, but other brands soon followed suit.
Quiksilver filed for bankruptcy in 2015 and was later acquired by Oaktree Capital Management, a private equity firm. Abercrombie & Fitch, owner of the surf-themed Hollister brand, announced the closure of stores as well as some openings in 2019, which would result in a reduction in net square footage.
Finally, we found a small selection of Hurley products at Paragon Sports in New York. What we saw clearly showed why Nike could consider selling the surfwear brand.
