Nima raises the trophy Sheik Sharabutu Ramadan Gala

Nima defeated New Fadama 1-0 in the final to win the Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharabutu Ramadan football gala championship which took place at Kotobabi Wembley Park in Accra on Saturday.

In a quick match, both teams made several incursions into the opponent's vital areas, but failed to score in the first 45 minutes.

Both teams had a great performance in the second half, but Nima, slightly better, scored the only goal of the match thanks to striker Matthias Essien, seven minutes from the end.

On the way to the finals, New Fadama beat Madina 2-1 and beat Alajo 2-0 while Nima eliminated Darkuman 2-1 and beat Newtown 2-0.

The best player award went to Rashid Bartels de Nima, who received a motorcycle.

The contest, which was sponsored by Somoco Ghana Limited, Nasco Electronics Limited, Five Star Energy Drink and Ashfoam Ghana Limited, is played each year to mark the end of Ramadan.

It was on the theme "Gathering Zongos Communities – Celebrating 100 Years of Allah's Grace".

Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharabutu, National Chief of Imam, congratulated the teams for the sportsmanship they have shown throughout the games.

He urged them to ensure that there is always peace in their various communities in Zongo.

Alhaji Boniface Abubakar Saddique, state minister at the vice president's office, asked them to refrain from being used by politicians unhappy to sow chaos in the country.
