Mr. Cheng Chong, security engineer for MV Multicat Odin, told Tema media that the security team, while conducting regular surveillance, had sounded the alarm of a conflict within anchorage of the new port.
"So we deployed a tug in the area where the men were trapped and rescued them," he said.
The team, he said, administered first aid to the fishermen, after which they were transferred to health centers for medical examinations before being handed over to the port authority's safety authorities. Ghana (GPHA).
The three fishing boats, he said, were badly damaged and officials were unable to recover them.

Narrating their experiences, the fishermen told the Daily Graphic that they had studied the weather before shipping.
Mr Copson said the team, having already started activities in the same area, was aware of the dangers.
"We are always careful. We learned to make good use of the radio to be aware of weather forecasts for our own safety, but that day we were caught by surprise by the strong storm while we were at sea, "he said. he declares.
Damage to their tools, he said, means that they have lost their livelihoods and are already suffering the effects of economic hardship.
"After our rescue, officials from the Fisheries Commission came to take our statement and also checked the situation. We hoped that they would contact us, but until now, we have not heard anything from them, "said Mr. Copson.
He appealed to the government to help the group help them provide for their families, who he said were affected by the current situation.
The GPHA safety officer, Sheikh Salifu Barry, urged the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development to step up fishermen's education on acquiring safer and more sustainable boats to facilitate their fishing activities.
He congratulated Multicat Odin's team for the rescue operation, during which the nine men were taken away alive, claiming that the situation would have been disastrous without the team.
Mr. Felix Anang-La, General Manager of Tema Metropolitan Area, congratulated officials from Multicat and Meridian Port Services (MPS) for the manner in which the victims were saved.

MPS chief executive, Mr. Mohammed Samara, donated a set of fishing gear and an undisclosed amount to fishermen to help them restart their careers.

He thanked the captain and the ship's crew for their timely intervention and for being put at risk in order to avoid losing lives.
Mr. Samara urged fishermen to always keep their lifejackets when they engaged in a fishing expedition.
