Mr. Kpebu stated that the head of the Criminal Investigation Department personally intervened to remove the two men from custody to an establishment of the BNI.

Police and state prosecutors did not make any statements, even though lawyers said they had notified the Attorney General's Office and the police of bail applications.

The court admitted the two men to pay bail of 10,000 cedis each with two bonds. The case has been postponed to 1 April.

On March 14, 2019, officer Julius Mawuli Ekpe, police officer, went into a fight with the police officer and the driver.. The incident became viral after the broadcast of a video clip on social media.

The police officer had chased the driver and his companion with the help of a motorcycle after allegedly attempting to escape arrest for allegedly unruly driving. They were apprehended and brought to justice four days later.

The defendants were charged with conspiracy to commit a crime, causing unlawful damage and obstruction and insecurity to other road users. They both pleaded not guilty to all charges.

But the two men's lawyers accused the police of hitting the accused while he was in custody at the Odorkor police station. They were later transferred to the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) for security reasons.

Nine law practitioners came to their aid to ask for a deposit for the driver and his companion.
